Basically, any interruption between power generation and the supply of electricity to homes can cause a power outage. It can stem from inclement weather conditions, human error, equipment failure, and even animal interference.

Anything from a downed power line to scheduled maintenance to the electricity distribution facilities can shut down the power in your area. Lightning storms and strong winds can also seriously damage power lines, so if weather conditions are terrible and the lights flicker, problems with power lines may be the reason.

First, check all of the outlets in the affected area to see if any have loose or damaged wires. If so, these need to be repaired or replaced as soon as possible. Another possibility is that a circuit breaker may be loose or damaged. In this case, you will need to replace the breaker or put it back in place.
