Richard Ashcroft cuts a casual figure for date night with wife Kate (2024)

He became a household name in the 90s, amassing a collection of hits with his former band The Verve.

And Richard Ashcroft, 51, was pictured enjoying a date with his wife Kate Radley, 56, who used to be in the band Spiritualized.

The rocker cut a casual figure in a brown jacket and blue jeans as he walked through the streets of Mayfair with his partner of 27 years.

He layered his look with a camel coloured T-shirt and brown shoes, puffing on a cigarette as he strolled.

Richard still bared a striking resemblance to his 90s heyday, keeping his long locks hair style and casual sense of style

All this talk of getting old-(er): The Verve's Richard Ashcroft, 51, cut a casual figure for Mayfair date night with wife of 27 years Kate Radley, 56, in Mayfair on Wednesday

Meanwhile Kate, who is mother to their two sons Sonny, 23, and Cassius, 18, looked extremely chic for the dinner in a white and pink floral dress.

She paired her look with a bright pink cardigan and white loafers, shielding her face with stylish black sunglasses.

Richard has kept an extremely low-profile over the past few years.

The last time he made headlines was in 2019, when he picked up the trophy for Outstanding Contribution to British Music at the Ivor Novello Awards.

It came after he regained the rights to his hit 1997 track Bittersweet Symphonyfrom Rolling Stones legends Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

Dressed in a plush red velvet jacket, blue jeans and dark sunglasses, Richard larked about in the winners room after scooping his prize.

The Music Is Power hitmaker triumphantly held up his award and pumped his fist in jubilation.

His glee was no doubt helped by the fact that he finally regained the rightsto his most famous track over 20 years after its release, following a bitter lawsuit with the band.

Bittersweet Symphony, which Richard has branded a 'f***ing masterpiece', sampled The Rolling Stones’s song The Last Time, using a composition by record producer Andrew Oldham.

But 20 decades on the star won back all his rights after Sir Mick and Keith handed them over.

All future royalties for the popular track were then set to go to Richard, with Mick and Keith having removed their names from the writing credits.

Speaking about the momentous event, Richard said in a statement: 'This remarkable and life affirming turn of events was made possible by a king and magnanimous gesture from Mick and Keith, who have also agreed that they are happy for the writing credit to exclude their names and all their royalties derived from the song they will now pass to me.

'I would like to thank the main players in this, my management Steve Kutner and John Kennedy, the Stones manager Joyce Smyth and Jody Klein (for actually taking the call) lastly a huge unreserved heartfelt thanks and respect to Mick and Keith. Music is power.'

Congratulations: Richard has kept an extremely low-profile over the past few years. The last time he made headlines was in 2019, when he picked up the trophy for Outstanding Contribution to British Music at the Ivor Novello Awards

Meanwhile, the rocker opened up about winning theOutstanding Contribution prize.

Opening up to BANG Showbiz, he said: 'I thought it was worded a different way, I thought it was lifetime achievement, I said lifetime achievement? Give it another decade if I'm still around but yeah I'm honoured to be here, a great award, fantastic.'

The award is the second for Richard, having won for Songwriter of the Year in 1998.

Joking that his awards were now symmetrical, he added to the publication: 'I'll never forget being at The Ivors 20 years ago with my wife for 'Drugs Don't Work'. I put a hole in the original award trying to put a nail in - I'm sorry Ivors - but it is a weighty award.

'Don't know if you've ever held an Ivor. It's probably the most aesthetically pleasing and also weighty award I think out there so there's another reason to win one. I like symmetry as well so I've got two now so that's cool.'
