Another regular season is in the books for Farmingdale’s PAL Flag Football program. The boys and girls are now participating in the annual post-season tournament that culminates with a Super Sunday Celebration at Woodward Parkway Field this weekend.
Peanut-2
The second grade Giants turned in another great game. Allison Kiernan, Jack Cavaioli, Steven Keller, and Spencer Kelly led the Giant offense with touchdowns. Nicholas Tedesco, Matthew Cestare, Vinny Gennaro, and Ryan Hajko led the defense in shutting down the Broncos.
Girls 3-5
The Lady Broncos had an impressive 37- 0 victory over the Vikings behind a strong running game. Grace Murphy jump-started the offense with a long TD run to go up 6-0. The lead quickly increased to 12-0 behind another long run by Jessica Lidonnici and then increased to 18 -0 on Geneova Ammonds touchdown. The second half was more of the same where Nicole Kosinski scored a TD increasing the lead. The final score was by Nicolette Raffaele who scored on a long reception. Corinne Tempesta lead the team on defense blocking many passes. Kayla Poltorak was not able to attend the game but she was rooting for the team.
Pee Wee-3
The Vikings had an outstanding game against the Broncos with Nicky Demers leading the way with running and receiving TDs! Nicky also threw two TDs to Frankie Gatto and Jack Macaluso who had a great run after the catch! Nicholas Starkie scored his first TD of the season and added on a 2-pt conversion run! Every Viking had runs or catches for big gains including Cody Nelson, Matthew Widmer, Thomas Moccia and Jevon Evans! The Vikings played the best defense of the season by not allowing the Broncos offense to score!
Underclear skies, the Steelers and Browns took the field for an intense defensive battle. In a scoreless first half, the Steelers Alex Hajkowas headed for the end zone aftera nice catch and run, but his hopes were dashed when he was forcedout of bounds at the 2 yard line. Both teams traded possessions and the Steelers “D” was unbreakable with key flag pulls by Jake Dominicciand a diving stop by Matt Valero. In the second half, Alex Ventura made a nice run, butwas stopped by the Browns.Brian Hayden finally took the Steelers to the promised land with a field length TDrun. The Steelers “D” never backed down with JaredAlemanblocking a pass and Matt Nocerinokeeping the pressure onall game. The Browns were driving for the tying score with under a minute to play, until Alex Hajkopicked apass out of the air on the 5-yard line for the game saving interception.
Pee Wee-4
The Giants have won seven straight games. Joseph DeFlorio, Andrew Needham, Daniel Keller, and Robbie Keane led the Giants’ offense with touchdowns. Mr. Reliable, Marc Conigliaro, added all of the team’s extra points. Thomas Marcotte, Anthony Tedesco, James Tedesco, and Frank Bondietti led the defense in holding the Patriots to 12 points. The Giants advance to Super Bowl Sunday.
The Jets beat the Chiefs 14-13 to advance to Super Bowl Sunday. After falling behind 13-0 early the Jets got back into the game on a TD run by Mark Bakich. Matthew Calderone scored the teams second touchdown on a pass from Kevin McMahon to bring the score to 13-12. Chris Ossenfort, Greg Pandaliano, Anthony Speciale and Matthew Wicks kept the offense running with big runs. The defense was anchored by Antonio “Junior” Smikle and Anthony S. Mark B sacked the quarterback in the end zone to help the Jets go up 14-12. The victory was sealed with an interception by Joe Kosinski on the Chiefs last Drive.
The Steelers won their 4th straight game, defeating a tough Redskins team 21-12 in the first round of the post season tournament. The Steelers took a 21-0 halftime lead on3 touchdowns by William “Dash”Hund, two of which came on great passesby Greg Monteleone. The “Steel Curtain”defense held off a resurgent Redskins in the second half, thanks to the efforts of Willie Wenzel (one interception),Billy Petersen, Kenny Amato,MatthewTolkach, Liam McIntyreand Gio Maiorano.
Junior Varsity-5
The Mighty Orange Crush Browns continue to impress. Nick “Golden Arm” Cappellino rolling right found Tyler “Sully” Sullivan streaking across the end zone for the Browns first TD. Later, it was Nick to Nick, Pantorno, for another TD. Michael “Crazy Legs” Simmons had a great interception and run back for a TD and also a long reception that led to a TD. Trevor “The Trevenator” Clark contributed by throwing, catching and running the ball as well as a solid defense. Lucas Cecchetti led the team with the most sacks; not to be outdone, Andrew D. Michael G. and Matt L. were tremendous as well . Game balls were presented to Lucas and Trevor.
The Vikings’ victory was a total team effort. With QB Larry Lembo and defensive specialist RussellCastle unable to play and cheering from the sidelines, everyone stepped up their game as the Vikings defeated the Patriots 38-6. Robby Modica and Spencer Alger combined for 5 touchdown passes to Michael Thiem, Jordan McClune and Justin Barnes. The defense was tenacious, headed by the pass rushing of David Behavoric. The coaches are very proud of the team’s effort, not just during this game, but during the entire season.
The Giants ran into a tough Rams team and came up short. After a shaky start the Giant D settled in and held the Ram offense in check. Joe “Hollywood” Dwyer, Mike Gulino, Anthony LaRosa and Joe Scmidt all came up with big plays on defense. Sean Ferris, Sean Moloney and Jack Livingston did a nice job moving the ball against the stingy Ram defense. The Giants lone score came on a Tom Donovan to Tyler Moloney TD pass. Coaches John and Kevin are very proud of how the boys came to play each week and gave their best efforts to the team.
Last week, the Giants turned in a great all around team effort in besting a tough Redskins team. All of the boys contributed on both sides of the ball with Joe “Hollywood” Dwyer leading the way with 3TDs. Mike Gulino, Joe Schmidt, Sean Ferris (TD) and Sean Moloney all chipped in with big catches and runs. Tom Donovan and Jack Livingston directed the offensefrom the QB spotand Tyler Moloney returned an INT for a TD.
Varsity-7
The Giants advanced to the next round of the tournament with a hard fought win over the Steelers. Mike Lynch, VinnyRubino and Matt MacKenzie provided most of the scoring on the receiving end of TD passes from Chris Moloney. Paul DeSimmone chipped in with some key first down runs and helped anchor the stingy Giant defense along with Brian Christmann, Mike Martens and Marc Dittmeir.
Last week, the Giants outlasted a tough Jets team and came away with a big win to close out the regularseason. Marc Dittmeir applied constant pressure to Jets QBs all day as the rest of the Giant “D” pitched in to make some big plays andstop Jets scoring drives. Chris Moloney and Vinny Rubino shared the QB duties and threw TD passes to Brian Christman, Matt MacKenzie and Mike Lynch.
Varsity-9
The Broncos advanced to Super Sunday with a 32-20 win over the Chiefs. It took a great team effort to defeat a tough Chiefs team who had beaten the Broncos earlier in the season. QB Liam Walsh tossed 3 TD passes, one to Anthony Bonilla and 2 to Harrison Graf. Anthony also had a TD run. Harrison threw a TD pass of his own to Joe Dilauro. Joe and Harrison also caught extra points catches from Liam. Kevin Aliventi took a handoff and made a great run for a first down. On defense, it was Matt Lubliner, Liam, Harrison, and Anthony who combined for many flag pulls. Chris Witt had a QB sack with Joe adding two more. Nicky Mio and Alex Melton played hard all game to help the Broncos advance.
The Jets knocked off the Giants with solid defense and a high-flying offense. Denis Donovan had a pair of “pick sixes” while Paul Cohen was equally impressive on defense against the Giant’s top receiver. On offense, Vincent Mavaro pulled in a couple of long bombs for scores, while Brian Mazza and Robert Bianco also caught TD passes. Billy Pickett and Nathan Kircheim were solid on both sides of the ball as the Jets advance.
